The SM-3A is a seamless metal-cored welding wire optimized for use with Argon/CO₂ mixed shielding gas (M21). It is suitable for both automated and manual welding of horizontal butt and fillet welds within the spray arc range. Additionally, it performs effectively in all positional welding when operating in the short arc (dip transfer) mode.

Comprising primarily metal flux, the SM-3A ensures high productivity. Its seamless design contributes to a stable welding arc with minimal spatter and produces an excellent bead appearance. The presence of only minor surface silica islands reduces re-ignition issues, facilitating multi-layer welding without the necessity for inter-run de-slagging.

The wire features a clean, copper-coated surface with precise diameter and roundness, promoting consistent wire feeding. This attribute is particularly beneficial when employing long conduit cables or engaging in automated welding processes. The SM-3A is engineered to achieve Charpy impact values of ≥47 joules at -40°C, making it suitable for applications requiring robust mechanical properties at low temperatures.
